VRC Paper Airplanes

0 ratings

Ever been wandering around VRChat and just felt the desire to throw a paper airplane at someone? Have a world on a rooftop and think something fun to throw off would be a giggle? Need just that little extra in your world for users to play with? This might just be the fun little prefab for you! Another in the wonderful production pipeline that is SistersInGaming.

These happy little paper airplanes fly, bounce, and streak across the sky with delicate ease. A built in target shooting game, or just free for all scoring gives your players options on how they want to have fun. Don't have room for the targets? No problem! Easily disable them and you just have a fun little toys for your world to throw around.

Designed from the get go for portability and ease of deployment, this entire package deploys very quickly and simply: open into your project, place, and upload! Everything else will just take care of itself. Adding additional airplanes, targets, tables, of any quantity or placement with this prefab is just a number on an array away! Drop into your scene, adjust the array, add the new objects, and you are set! Not sure what an array is? Don't worry, there is a full description on how to add things below! If you want to do something with this prefab, we have probably already integrated it somehow.

Built in features right out of the box:

  • Reset button
    • recalls all airplanes to their original starting position and rotation - even if you've changed their position from what was in the prefab!
  • Target score resetting
    • one button resets the score above every target back to zero!
  • Table collider toggle
    • allows players to walk through the table, but keeps the airplanes and other pickup elements from going through the table!
  • Airplane trail toggle
    • allows players to toggle on and off (locally) if the airplanes produce a trail behind them as they fly through the air!
  • Speed slider
    • going from mild to wild, this little slider allows players to choose exactly how fast their airplane will soar.
  • Hold to build speed
    • the longer a player holds the trigger after picking an airplane up, the more speed it will build - every vibration of their controller is a little more speed added.
  • Disable airplanes altogether
    • does exactly what it says on the tin - if your players don't want to see it, they don't have to.
  • Have the airplanes start disabled
    • don't want them to start spawned in? a single toggle will have them disabled by default, every time.
  • Have the game disabled
    • a single toggle removes the entire panel for the game side of this prefab, allowing your players to just have fun with the airplanes in their own way.

Adding additional airplanes:

As in the following picture, highlight "Paper Airplane Code", then adjust the number in the "size:" field (the red arrow below) to the number of airplanes in your scene (default is 10), then drag and drop them one at a time until every single numbered field below the "size:" field is filled with your airplanes. Any empty spaces here and the prefab might not work correctly.

The "StartAirplanesEnabled" field (blue arrow) is what you would uncheck to start the airplanes disabled for your players. Do not disable the airplanes in the scene manually.

Adding additional targets:

Highlight "Main Game Code" just like in the following picture and adjust the number beside "size:" (green arrow) to the exact number of targets in your scene. Fill any empty spaces below that field with the "collision" part of the target prefab (highlighted below with a purple arrow), making note that every single numbered field below it must be filled, or the prefab might not work correctly.

If you don't want to use the game elements of the prefab, delete the targets, adjust the number beside "size:" to 0 and check the box beside "DisableGamePanel" (orange arrow).

Adding additional tables:

To add additional tables to your world highlight "Table Scripts" as you can see in the image below, then adjust the number beside "size:" (white arrow) to the number of tables you have in the scene. Drag and drop the top level component, the table itself (cyan arrow), into the numbered fields below the "size:" field. All fields must be populated or the prefab might not work correctly.

A video tutorial will hopefully be completed soon! Thank you so much for looking, and please do contact me on Twitter (@MsMalvolio) if you use this prefab in your world! I cannot wait to check it out.
